Description The red-fluorescent Alexa Fluor® 594 anti-GFAP monoclonal antibody can be used to aid in the identification of cells of glial lineage. The 50 kDa type III intermediate filament protein glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is a major structural component of astrocytes and some ependymal cells. In the peripheral nervous system, the antibody stains Schwann cells, satellite cells and enteric glial cells. No positive staining is observed in skin, connective tissue, adipose, lymphatic, muscle or gastrointestinal tissues; nor is their staining in liver, pancreas, kidney, ureter or bladder tissues. Invitrogen’s anti-GFAP does not cross react with vimentin.
