Description IGFBP-1 is one of the six homologous proteins that specifically bind insulin-like growth factors and modulate their mitogenic and metabolic actions. The function of this protein is not completely defined. However. several studies demonstrate that it inhibits IGF binding to cell surface receptors and thereby inhibits IGF-mediated mitogenic and cell metabolic actionsInsulin Like Growth Factor Binding Protein modulate IGF activities by increasing their plasma half lives and by inhibiting or promoting the interactions of IGF with receptors on certain target cells. In addition these binding proteins provide a reservoir for IGF in pericellular spaces. Some IGF-BPs also have stimulating effects in vitro and some may inhibit the growth of cells.Recombinant Human Insulin Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-1 is a single glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 218 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 28806 Dalton.
